It is with great sadness and terrible heartache that we acknowledge the passing of eight year HRL veteran, Anthony “Amon” Amon, at the age of 28. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

Amon joined the HRL in 2008, and during his career, played for the Angels, Marlins, Yankees, Mets, and Pirates. He was a 2015 Eagan All-Star, and finished 2nd in the league with 155 K’s on the mound. A power pitcher to be sure, teams knew that when they had to face Amon, they were going to be in for a fight, as he averaged just shy of 1.5 K’s per inning over his career, and exceeded 130 K’s in four different seasons.

But beyond the determined ballplayer, Amon was a determined person. Having had a passion for helping people, Amon proudly graduated from Metropolitan State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement, which he turned into a career as a 911 dispatcher in Ramsey County. He was also an on-call firefighter and a member of the North St. Paul Police Reserves where he earned the 2011 Reserve Officer of the Year Award.

To say that we will miss Amon would be a tremendous understatement. Sure, he was a determined competitor and didn’t much care for losing, but he was one funny guy. He hated, HATED, striking out. His bat tosses and rants on the way back to the bench are HRL classics! He shared great stories, he told great jokes, and he dished it out with the boys as well as he took it. We will most definitely miss all of that the most.

If you can, per the family request, please consider a memorial to the North St. Paul, MN Fire Department in Anthony’s name.

We love you Amon, and we will miss you more than you’d ever know. We’ll see you on the other side… And we’re bringing yellow bats!
